An exhibition of drawings collected from five projects: Altered States, Your Nowhere is My Somewhere. See You There, Magdalena; Splendora Drawings, and Vienna Drawings.
Altered States: a collection of 242 drawings made 2016 – 2019, based on photographs taken driving a route determined by American towns with evocative names, suggestive of Utopian ideals, idealized pasts, mythical futures, offering a spectrum of emotions. Altered States traveled to several venues, including 120 drawings made in 2016 and 2017, shown at Gallery Sonja Roesch in 2017. The Altered States drawings in the current exhibition were made in 2018 and 2019.
Your Nowhere is My Somewhere. See You There: originally a set of 40 drawings made in 2016 and 2017, based on sites in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico, half of them made at Chinati Hot Springs. The original presentation of these drawings was at Bale Creek Allen Gallery, Austin, TX, 2017.
Magdalena: 21 drawings made 2021 to 2024, based on sites in Magdalena, New Mexico, where the artist moved to from San Antonio, Texas in 2019, originally shown at 14BC Gallery, NYC, 2023, and Warehouse 1-10, Magdalena, New Mexico, 2024. Splendora Drawings: 13 drawings made at Splendora Gardens, known now as the Locke Surls Center for Art and Nature, for an exhibition there in 2017. Vienna Drawings: 6 drawings made on top of a piano at an art fair in Vienna, 2016.
Hills Snyder: 72 Drawings is showing concurrently with an exhibition at the Amarillo Museum of Art, Hills Snyder: Strays (a selection, 1973 – 2026, August 29 through December 13, 2026. Opening reception September 18, 2026, in Amarillo).
