Myke Venable - Twilight
July 6th - August 31st, 2024
"Twilight," the latest body of work from Myke Venable, originated from a series of pen and ink concept drawings. Bright, colorful lines entangle and overlap, weaving a multilayered and multidirectional web. The careful build-up of latex and acrylic paints on canvas creates a complexity of pentimenti, preserving and displaying the underlying line-work.
The summer 2024 show continues a trilogy of solo exhibitions at Gallery Sonja Roesch, where Venable uses node-points to explore thematic metamorphoses. He pulls color from everyday life, from nature to the urban matrix, to create a resounding feedback loop between art and viewer. From "Shifting Perspectives" to "Lift-Off" and now "Twilight," the continuation of this series offers a resurgence of new possibilities through evolving mark-making and textural techniques.
Myke Venable is based in Houston. Born in 1966 in Port Arthur, Texas, Venable earned his BFA and MA at Lamar University in Beaumont. He has taught drawing classes at the Art League Houston for 10 years, while simultaneously creating art at a prolific rate and participating in a variety of exhibitions. In 2025 will be an exhibition in the NAVE Museum Victoria Texas. Venable's work has been purchased by private and corporate collectors in Houston, Santa Fe, Milan, Austin, San Antonio, Berlin, Chicago and Japan. He is represented by Gallery Sonja Roesch.
