Madeleine Dietz - Fragments Earth and Steel

April 13th - June 29th, 2024

Fragments of things that have been, uncovered in archaeology, ruins, parts of a whole. Storage boxes, treasure chests for essentials. Earth on which we live, from which we live, which takes us in when we have died. Memories of loved ones. Drought, desert - sorrow, loss. Hoping for a rainy season in the desert, the possibility of growth, a new beginning ..... Eternal cycle of becoming and passing away, forgetting and remembering. Memory is ambivalent, what remains?

Madeleine Dietz’s work marks the tension between the opposites: nature and culture, chaos and order, development and perishing, open and closed, earth and metal. Shapes of steel open and close, revealing earth, and reflecting on these tensions present in life and nature.

Madeleine Dietz was born in Mannheim, Germany and studied at the local art school from 1970 to 1974. She lives and works in Rheinland Pfalz in Germany. Her work is in many Museums and private collections, including the Kunsthalle Mannheim, the Wilhelm-Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen, Museum of Contemporary Art in Neubrandenburg, the New Museum in Weserburg, Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten in Marl, Kultusministerium Bad.Wuerttemberg, in London the Wall Hall University Henry Moore Foundation, in Houston the Baptist University Fine Art Museum.
