Art on Paper

June 9 - August 11, 2018

For artists primarily working in the realm painting and sculpture, working on paper can be an opportunity to prototype ideas; an informal sketch in which the artist works out their thoughts and processes. It’s a chance to test alternative materials, methods, color, and compositions.

Art on Paper is a group exhibition that features Susanne Ackermann, Dieter Balzer, Nicholas Bodde, Don Glentzer, Raimund Girke, Erin Miller, Ruth Pastine, Mario Reis, Hills Snyder, and Myke Venable. These ten artists use paper in a variety of ways; from printing to collaging to painting.

Erin Miller screen-prints decorative elements found in old family photographs onto Phototex adhesives, which are then applied directly onto the walls. Miller aims to re-create familial still lives from her past.

Myke Venable unveils his latest ‘Shapeshifter’ series, they play with the balance between positive and negative space.

Ruth Pastine investigates perceptual experience, relativity of color, light, and spatial interplay through the use of soft powder pastel medium on paper.

Painting on paper leads itself to the exploration of color combinations as well as different techniques of applying the paint. Bodde puts oil and acrylic onto paper and creates vibrant linear compositions. Girke created monochrome works to analyze the color white.
