MYKE VENABLE

Born in 1966 in Port Arthur, Texas, Myke Venable received a Masters and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Venable has been a drawing instructor with Art League Houston for six years and has been represented by Gallery Sonja Roesch since 2010. Venable’s work has been purchased by private and corporate collectors locally and globally.

Myke Venable explores various materials, concepts and color arrangements to find the ideal visual effect. For Venable, it is all about the experience with the artwork, from the initial concept, the making of the work, to living with the completed piece.

Minimalist artists such as Donald Judd and Ellsworth Kelly gave Venable a broader view of what art can be, and that the aesthetic of a simple surface can speak volumes. Venable pulls color combinations from everyday life, such as nature and urban environments. Colors play an important role in Venable’s work. He also uses pin stripping in compositions to explore the elements of a line.
